Chris: Day 48
Sorry, its been a while since I have written anything. I should probably tell you about how that pesky 5k went!
It started off bad! I got up early in the morning with plenty of time to get to Hampton. However, Google sent me on a crazy path that made no sense. To make it worse, once I arrived at the race, I knew exactly where I was and definitely could have gotten there quicker on my own. But of course, I didn't that it was in such a familiar place. My poor brain.
So I got there 30 minutes late. In fact by the time I started running Joe had already finished! Haha. So anyways, I still did it. I was tempted not to show up while I was stuck in that crazy path Google gave me. But I am glad I did it. I would say that overall I ran about 1/3 of it and walked the rest. I got it done in about 45 minutes. I realize that that isn't a great time, but I am happy with it and just with the fact that I did. I plan to more of these.
Oh, and as of this morning, I am down 10 lbs! But we will see how that fluctuates over the weekend!

Day 36: Chris
Well, I feel like I should write a little about what is going on. This week I will be doing the 5k. One thing I am sure of is that I will be walking more than I will be running. The last couple of weeks I have done outdoor jogging and walking to get ready, and it is just not the same as doing cardio at the gym. Fat people are just not suppose to run! Haha.
I've kinda jumped ship on the Body for Life plan. It requires a huge lifestyle that I just am not able to do right now. It can't be a top priority for me on top of ministry and school work. So basically I am adapting the principles and fitting it into my life. The hardest thing is trying to manage 6 mini meals. So I am back to normal eating, but still eating the kinds of food that Body for Life suggests. I am actually doubling up on the exercise. You are supposed to rotate upper body muscles, cardio, lower body muscles, cardio. Now I am doing the cardio everyday and rotating the muscle groups from day to day.
I can definitely feel the difference. I can feel my muscles taking shape. I think one of the reasons my pounds aren't shedding off as quickly as I would like is because of the intense weight workouts. But anyways, as of yesterday I was down eight pounds. Not to shabby!
Thanks for all the support guys!

Day 18: Chris
So I just got done signing up for my first 5K. Joe and I have been talking about this for a while, and thankfully he has kept busting my tail reminding me to sign up. This will probably be more of a walk than anything for me, but it goes to a good cause and is something active for me to do right? Its the Toys for Tots Thanksgiving Day Race, so I will probably celebrate afterward with much turkey and stuffing!

Day 11: Chris
Eating out and trying to be healthy is expensive man. The only place I can go and get a deal seems to be Subway. I can get a sub there for five bucks that makes two meals. But I just ate a Chick Fil A with Joe Snow and dropped 6.50 for a grilled sandwich and a side salad. Plus he was eating chicken nuggets and fries and I had a regular chicken sandwich in front of me that I was taking home for my mom. Temptation I say! I should get a medal for this. Haha.

Day 10: Chris
Ten days in and things are going swell. At this point I am down 6 pounds. However, I do realize that during the first week or two weight loss is a little easier cause your body drops water weight and the like, but I am not sure if that applies to me because I have been a pretty consistent exerciser even before the challenge. Either way, I’m stoked!
Mark and I have been getting up at 6:30 in the morning and going to the YMCA to work out. For him this is no big deal, for me this is crucial. I am not a morning person, yet I have desired for the last couple of years to develop some morning discipline. Since Mark is a morning person, this has been helpful for me. Once I actually get out of bed I love being awake and being active. It also helps the energy run through me all day. It even inspires me to engage in more discipline (I’m reading a lot more now.)
I am working through the Body for Life (BFL) program. It consists of short but intense work outs and six mini meals a day. It also includes one free day a week where you don’t have to exercise and you can throw down on whatever food you want. It’s crazy I usually do 45 minutes to an hour of cardio, but the BFL cardio workout is only 20 minutes, yet it kicks my tail. Mark thought I was gonna pass out this morning, haha.
Everyone has been so encouraging and I really appreciate it. Thank you guys!

(Mark)
Well this week was going great until last night. I was out with some friends and we decided to hit up TACO BELL. I felt so bad about committing this sin that I called Chris to confess. Only to find out that he had also derailed at Burger King. So I went to the Gym today to make up for it. Did a 30 min cardio workout, for 2 miles. Then chris locked his keys in his car so I had to go break in and get um for him. After that I was WHOOPED. Monday Chris and I really start the workout part of challenge. I'm actually looking forward to it.

Mark
Well this is my first entry in the weight loss blog. As chris wrote in the entry before me. This week has also been a warmup week for me. Hopefully next week I can get into a routine of going to the gym. Eating this week as been going great. I've been drinking 4 liters of water a day. The only thing is I have to get up and pee 2-3 times a night and that is very irritating. Unlike chris I don't listen to music when I'm working out. I do however listen to audio books.
So if you've got any good books, gimme a shout.
I'm def in need of one.

Day 4: Chris
So, we are on day 4. Things have been going ok. I am keeping up with the exercise and eating a lot better. There have been a couple of particularly stressful and emotional days this week, but I was still able to keep up with the healthy habits (usually I would go out and get fast food cause its easy and delicious during stress.) So its all good so far, this week has been kinda a warm up week, I am gonna start getting a little more disciplined next week I hope.
When I run and do aerobic exercise I have to have music. Lately I have been working out to the following bands...
Thrice
Rise Against
The Offspring
New Found Glory
Lecrae
116 Clique
What do you like to listen to when you work out?
God Bless,

And It Begins!
Well, we weighed in this morning. I'm not gonna lie, Mark and I went back in forth in discussion over the last week on whether or not we were gonna post the starting weight online because, in all honesty, for fat guys it's embarrassing. But of course since you are helping us, we feel the need to make it known and keep ourselves accountable to you. That being said, here are the starting weights...
Chris: 310
Mark: 333
And now we work to change that and make ourselves better! Please please please, if you haven't sponsored on of us, read through the last few posts and pick someone to sponsor. If a dollar is too much per pound, we will definitely take sponsorship of whatever you can afford. But as you can see, there is plenty of weight to be loss. We are stoked about getting ourselves healthier and contributing to great causes that are helping the world at the same time.
Share this blog with your friends. How awesome would it be if this took off?
God Bless,

About The Challenge
This is going to be the place to keep up with the weight loss competition. Here is basically what is going to go down...
On October 20, 2008 Mark Goldfarb and Chris Conley are going to dive into a 6 month weight loss challenge. We have a personal wager between us to keep us motivated but we want YOU to get involved and keep us even more motivated. So here's how you can do that...
We are looking for people to sponsor us through this endeavor. You commit to giving whatever you can per pound (we recommend a dollar, but whatever you can give is awesome) that your chosen player loses. You can sponsor one of us, or you can sponsor both of us. At the end of the 6 months (April 20, 2009), we will report the final stats (regular stats and updates will be given throughout the process), and each player will be giving his sponsor support to his chosen cause/charity.
Mark will be supporting To Write Love On Her Arms (Fighting Depression, Self Injury, and Suicide)
Chris will be supporting The Rapha House (Fighting Global Sex Trafficking)
If you have any questions or would like to support Mark or Chris, send an email to markandchrisfightfat@markgoldfarb.com and we will make it happen. If you are sponsoring please include your first and last name, best way for contact (phone number, email addy, etc.), who you would like to sponsor, and how much you will be sponsoring them for.
Thanks so much! We will work on overhauling this blog during the week before things get started!
